Bumble and Bloom Media
For young entrepreneur Chloe Hall, building her own successful PR and Marketing business was something she only dared daydream about until spontaneously enrolling on Project North East’s eight week Business Start Up course in summer 2014…
From stories of far-away fairy tale lands and kitchen sink dramas that spanned pages in her school books, to having her work published in a local newspaper aged 11; it’s clear that Chloe has enjoyed writing from a young age.
Her love of writing flourished through secondary school, with Chloe achieving full marks in her English modules at GCSE and A-Level before being accepted to study English Literature at Newcastle University. Writing spilled over into her professional career through the form of copywriting as Chloe earned herself the role of Marketing Communications Assistant at her part time job during university. Armed with little else than a keen eye for grammatical errors and the freedom to use her imagination, it was in this role that Chloe gained her first taste of writing commercially and instinctively tried her hand at everything from social media marketing and creating marketing materials, to writing press releases and email campaigns.
Having graduated from Newcastle University with a 2:1 in English Literature in July 2012, Chloe continued to hone her writing skills, working full time as an Editorial Assistant for a local lifestyle magazine. Gaining invaluable experience of working to multiple deadlines, interpreting briefs and seeing her name in print, Chloe relished the role and worked hard to earn a promotion to a senior writer less than six months later. As Chloe explains “The beauty of a role like this was having the opportunity to write widely about a broad range of industries and the people within them”, adding that “I soon discovered my favourite articles to write were the business-focused ones about Women in Business, or putting small businesses in the spotlight.” Her natural ease with interviewing the people behind the business or brand and ability to engage readers – be that on social media, in print or blogging - the same is still true for Chloe whose business Bumble and Bloom Media works on a b2b basis.
A story-teller through and through, Chloe instinctively knew her abilities and passion lay with businesses and telling their stories – whether directly to customers, or the media, Chloe’s unique background in marketing, PR and copywriting meant she was a valuable asset to businesses looking to increase brand exposure and communicate with their target market. Proving herself more than capable managing multiple deadlines and heavy workloads in the fast-paced and frenetic world of the publishing industry, Chloe sought a new creative challenge. The decision to leave the safety and security of her full time job to work on a freelance basis was a scary prospect and big risk financially, but it was one she knew she had to take and one that happily paid off.
This break in routine from a 9-5 office environment was integral in helping Chloe develop her skills and knowledge base as she used her new ‘free time’ wisely to enrol on a number of free courses across the region. From SEO for Beginners to Wordpress Website Building and various Exploring Enterprise courses, the idea of starting her own business began to grow into a dream over the next few months. Having studied Business at GCSE and A-Level, Chloe had a basic knowledge of business theory, but decided to enrol on the eight week Business Course led by PNE Enterprise to brush up her skills “for when she was ready to start a business in the future”. Little did she know that day would come a lot sooner than she first thought!
Tentatively launching her business Bumble and Bloom Media in October 2014 at the age of 23, Chloe recently celebrated six months in business, has earned herself an enviable reputation in the North East as an affordable, reliable and resourceful PR and Marketing Consultant for small businesses and won a number of awards for her hard work. Her client portfolio has grown from supporting micro businesses and SME’s here in the North East with PR and marketing tasks, to working with established global brands such as the Cambridge Satchel Company, Bloom and Wild, Cushelle and Velvet. Crediting her time at the eight week Business Start Up Course as “time well spent” and the catalyst in having the confidence to go out on her own and take the risk to start her own business, Chloe continues to return to the popular eight week courses on a monthly basis as a Guest Speaker, sharing her story with other soon-to-be business owners in the hope of inspiring and instilling confidence in them, and also volunteers as a Business Mentor with PNE Enterprise sharing her industry knowledge and experience with new start-ups here in the North East.
