United by a shared creative vision, Aimee Thompson and Andrew Young decided to begin their business journey in 2019. And so BEOM
was born, a graphic and digital studio specialising in experience-led design for forward-thinking businesses.
With a collective experience of over 30 years working with global brands, they have developed a creative partnership in which they imagine, design, and build brands for today’s most innovative products and services.
Specialising in brand identity design, Aimee is a graphic designer with a passion for illustration and image-making. Since studying Graphic Design at Northumbria University, Aimee has worked with a wide range of ambitious companies around the world, designing strategic and creative solutions.
Complementing Aimee’s skills, Andrew is the UX and Digital specialist at BEOM. Andrew, also a Northumbria University graduate, decided to follow his passion for design and technology and has built a wealth of experience in designing and building digital solutions for businesses across a range of sectors.
Having already built an impressive and distinctive portfolio in a short period of time, BEOM places huge importance on dedicating time to self-initiated projects. These projects help Andrew and Aimee continue to develop their craft and fuel inspiration for their client work.
Discussing the future, Aimee and Andrew want these self-initiated projects to remain a core part of what they do. Commercially, their vision is for BEOM to remain specialist, delivering work to the highest quality with forward-thinking brands around the world. Remaining small and focussed allows them to pay extra attention to the details of every project, whether large or small, and build a solid understanding of the companies they work with.
Despite being in the early stages of their start-up journey, Aimee and Andrew have received support through PNE Enterprise’s Get Growing
programme, which is targeted at North East based business owners between the ages of 18 and 35. The programme supports businesses with growth ambitions to achieve their potential through a package of one-to-one mentoring, peer to peer networking opportunities, and access to masterclasses by leading business professionals.
As well as receiving support from the Get Growing programme, Aimee and Andrew have also benefited from support through one to one mentoring sessions at The PNE Enterprise Business Hub
, partially funded by the North of Tyne CLLD . Speaking of this support, Aimee and Andrew said, “The one-to-one mentoring we’ve received from Lee at PNE has given us great peace of mind. Whenever we’ve been unsure about something or just want to sense check our ideas PNE has assisted as well as connecting us with the local business community.”
In addition to the support they have received from PNE Enterprise, Aimee and Andrew have also benefited from support from the local business community. Based in Baltic 39, in the heart of Newcastle City Centre, BEOM is surrounded by a wealth of creative businesses. Aimee and Andrew are quick to praise the advice and encouragement they have received from other creative studios in the hub, helping them to overcome the challenges of starting a new business.
Reflecting on the support they have received in their start-up journey, Aimee and Andrew’s advice to other start-up businesses is to ask for help and advice along the way and try to learn from the experiences of other businesses. They were also keen to stress the importance of not being afraid to try new things, even if it doesn’t go the way you planned, “Just because something doesn’t work perfectly the first time doesn’t mean it’s broken - you just need time to learn and adapt as you go.”
