Jill Chapman: This is Me Graphics

A talented designer has started her own creative design agency with support from PNE Enterprise.

Jill Chapman was inspired to launch her business, This is Me Graphics, in November 2017 after receiving business support from Newcastle-based PNE Enterprise.

The creative design firm offers an extensive range of artistic packages and specialises in creating unique brand identities for new and existing businesses.

Despite only launching her business in November 2017, Jill has already had her designs featured on television.

“My biggest achievement so far has been designing the graphics for a product that was sold on TV. One of my clients is a team of quilt designers who have commissioned me on numerous occasions to produce the artwork for their pattern books.

“We’re onto the fourth book now and it still gives me a thrill every time I see my work on screen.”

But it has not been easy for the graphic designer who experiences chronic migraines.

“My condition has had a negative impact on my ability to work regular 9-5 hours which is why I explored the route of self-employment,” says Jill.

“With graphic design, it doesn’t matter if I am sketching at the desk during the day, at the coffee shop in the hospital or on the sofa at 3 in the morning – being my own boss is allowing me to be creative with my working hours and I feel that I have the freedom to grow my business.

“It’s been tough living with a long-term illness, but each time I receive ecstatic feedback from a client it is rebuilding a little confidence that I have lost of years of job rejections.”

Jill received support from PNE Enterprise to start her business and successfully applying for the New Enterprise Allowance and attending PNE Enterprise’s 2 Day Intensive Business Course, which is aimed at pre-start businesses.

“The 2 Day Intensive Business Course I attended as part of the New Enterprise Allowance gave me a lot of incredibly valuable information,” commented Jill, “It made me think about things that would not have occurred to me on my own.

“It was also helpful to meet people who are at the same stage of starting a business as I was. I’ve also kept in touch with some of the entrepreneurs on the course. It’s great to have someone to meet up with and bounce business ideas off!”

Following the 2 Day Intensive Business Course, Jill also received one-to-one support with PNE Enterprise business advisor Melissa Middleton.

Speaking about Jill and her creative venture, Melissa said: “Jill is positively and creatively brilliant, she is always willing to help her fellow entrepreneurs and is always willing to learn something new to help her business grow. She is a shining example of a budding inspiring entrepreneur showcasing North East talent”.
